Johnson Controls expands Luxaire LX Series of residential gas furnaces with 95.5 and 96 percent AFUE
Units feature smaller input rate, narrower cabinet and lower air-flow capacity

MILWAUKEE – (Dec. 20, 2011) – Johnson Controls, the global leader in delivering solutions that increase energy efficiency in buildings, introduces two additions to its Luxaire® LX Series of multi-position gas furnaces. The new models expand the TM9X and TM9V families and feature a smaller input rate, narrower cabinet, lower air-flow capacity and Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) ratings of 95.5 and 96 percent.

An input rate of 40,000 Btu/h enables the new furnaces to provide better heat load matches, avoiding oversized equipment selection. Correct sizing is further ensured by a lower air-flow capacity (rated for 1000 cfm nominal rather than 1200 cfm nominal), which matches the furnaces with Luxaire cooling units ranging from 1 to 2.5 tons.

The narrower width of the units – 14.5 inches compared to 17 inches for other cabinets in the LX Series – makes it easy to install these furnaces in retrofit applications where space is limited. Contractors who install the units will also appreciate their multiple configurations, lack of knockouts and patent-pending self-priming internal condensate trap, which combine to make installation easy.

The 96 percent, variable-speed TM9V model includes two-stage gas valve and inducer operation and a variable-speed electronically commutated motor (ECM) that circulates air for longer periods of time, equating to consistent temperatures and improved air filtering. The 95.5 percent, single-stage TM9X model features a five-speed, direct drive X13 style, high-efficiency DC motor. The efficiency of both furnaces is enhanced by an induced combustion, reliable hot surface ignition and a high heat transfer aluminized tubular heat exchanger.

Servicing the furnaces is easy, thanks one-quarter-turn knobs for door removal and solid removable bottom panels that make conversion easy. Units also feature access to controls to connect power/control wiring, a fully supported blower assembly for improved access and blower removal and high-level, self-diagnostics with fault-code display.

Quiet inducer operation and an insulated blower compartment combine to ensure quiet operation, while external air filters offer maximum flexibility to meet indoor quality needs. Timed-on, adjustable-off blower capabilities in select models deliver maximum comfort to the homeowner.

Homeowners can also take advantage of a lifetime warranty on the heat exchanger, a 10-year warranty on the heat exchanger in commercial applications and a five-year limited parts warranty. A 10-year limited parts warranty applies when the furnace is registered within 90 days of purchase in a replacement application or closing for new home construction.
